Background of the Study

As universities grow in size and infrastructure, navigating large campuses becomes increasingly difficult for students, especially newcomers. Bayero University, Kano, with its vast campus and multiple departments, presents a challenge for students in finding their way to classrooms, libraries, cafeterias, and administrative offices. A mobile application designed for campus navigation could provide students with a real-time map of the university, guiding them to their destinations and improving their overall campus experience. By integrating GPS technology and interactive features, the app could help users find buildings, facilities, and events, making their campus experience more efficient and enjoyable.

The use of mobile applications in educational settings has become more prevalent, and universities are increasingly adopting technological tools to enhance student experience and engagement. Implementing a campus navigation app at Bayero University could simplify students' daily navigation challenges and ensure they are more connected to their academic environment. This study aims to assess the feasibility and benefits of creating a mobile application to assist students with campus navigation at Bayero University, Kano.

Statement of the Problem

Navigating large campuses can be overwhelming for students, particularly new students who are unfamiliar with the layout of the university. The absence of a dedicated navigation system often leads to frustration, lost time, and increased stress levels among students. Bayero University, Kano, with its sprawling campus, faces this issue, making it difficult for students to find classrooms, resources, and key facilities. This research seeks to address these challenges by exploring the feasibility of a mobile application that would provide real-time navigation support for students and help enhance their overall campus experience.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and implement a mobile application for campus navigation at Bayero University, Kano.

  2. To assess the impact of the mobile application on student navigation efficiency and campus experience.

  3. To identify the challenges and opportunities associated with the development and use of the mobile campus navigation application.

Research Questions

  1. How feasible is the implementation of a mobile application for campus navigation at Bayero University, Kano?

  2. What impact does the mobile navigation application have on students' ability to efficiently navigate the campus?

  3. What challenges and opportunities exist in the development and adoption of a mobile navigation application at Bayero University?

Research Hypotheses

  1. The mobile navigation application improves students' ability to efficiently navigate the campus at Bayero University.

  2. The mobile application enhances the overall campus experience for students at Bayero University.

  3. The development and implementation of the mobile navigation application present both challenges and opportunities for Bayero University.

Significance of the Study

This study will help Bayero University understand the potential benefits of implementing a mobile campus navigation system, which could improve the students' ability to move around the campus, enhance their academic experience, and increase overall satisfaction. It also contributes to the broader discourse on technology integration in educational settings.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the development and implementation of the mobile campus navigation application for Bayero University, Kano. Limitations include the availability of infrastructure, the need for user training, and potential resistance to adopting new technology.
